After not listening to the missus when she said "Build a -10!" and discovering a 4-person family does not fit in a 2-seat RV I finally found a 4-seat 'family' plane, so I'm regretfully putting our RV on the market.

Built from a complete QB-Kit over 5 years, the first flight was 26th March 2016 under RAAus administration before being swapped to VH- after adding the second seat cushion, screen, transponder, autopilot, and so on...

The RV-9 is the -7s non-aerobatic cousin. With a higher-aspect ratio Roncz airfoil, it's a particularly efficient cross-country cruiser, without sacrificing the typical RV handling and performance. Rate of climb is around 1,500FPM, and I usually cruise at 2,400RPM that gives 140KTAS burning just 25-and-a-bit LPH of Mogas.

Apart from a couple of months after her first flight, she's been hangared continuously, initially at Cessnock and Somersby, and now Scone, though if you can't get a hangar straight away, she does have a full set of outdoor covers available.

Sad to see her go, but it's time to let someone else enjoy the RV Grin.

Engine Specifications

A factory new ECI OX-340S-B4J4N4 rated at 165HP with 250 hours The suffixes denote:

  • Low compression pistons (7.2:1), to run Mogas, and keep the HP around the max recommended by Van.
  • Dual Electronic Ignition (P-Mag 114's)
  • 14mm plug bosses in the cylinder heads (standard BR8ESSP automotive plugs)

The prop is a ground-adjustable Sensenich 2G0M7/C72RG, with a Rotec TB48/5 throttle body giving effortless starts, hot or cold. The prop's set mid-range giving a good blend of takeoff & climb performance, without overspeeding at altitude.

Interior

Carling Contura V backlit switches. Seat cusions are form-fitting seats from a Suzuki Swift that fit perfectly over the standard set frame. (Don't laugh, they fit well, look great and are very comfortable!)

Exterior

Polished using Nuvite compound with red & yellow vinyl striping. Easily removed if my chosen livery isn't to your liking.

Additional Features

She's almost a completely stock RV-9A, with a couple of small differences, these being:

  • Setup to fly PIC from the RHS. The Left stick grip is installed, pre-wired but not connected.
  • The VHF antenna is on the aft deck, not underneath - the Bruces' covers were custom-made to suit, and;
  • The Dynon system has a custom database of every ALA & certified airport, in addition to the OzRunways database

The weight and balance data has a BEW: 472.7Kg & BEWCG 77.65"

Also included is a Bogert aviation towbar and a complete set of Bruces' Custom Cover's with hail protection ($3K value alone!)
